Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

The premise of this movie is about a serial killer who brings along a crew to document/tape on how he was going to kill a bunch of people in the town of Glen Echo.

Very bizarre movie.  I do think it’s a must see though.

At first I really didn’t like this movie.  I thought it was awfully weird.  I thought the movie was a little all over the place, but in the end I did like it though.  And it has a wicked twist towards the end to look forward to.  I would give the movie 7.5 out of 10 stars.

Thirteen Ghosts

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

This movie is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name by William Castle.  Personally I never saw the original film.  I was quite impressed with the movie.  It was pretty entertaining.  Plus it included one of my favorite actresses from American Pie, Shannon Elizabeth.  Oh yeah!!!

The movie is about a crazy man/ghost hunter named Cyrus Kriticos (F. Murray Abraham) and his assistant Dennis Rafkin (Matthew Lillard) trying to catch a spirit called the Juggernaut in a junkyard.  But in the process of trying to catch the ghost most of the team gets killed including Cyrus.

Arthur (Tony Shalhoub), a mathematician is informed by Cyrus’s lawyer of his death and has told him that he inherited a mansion.  But guess what?  That is where Cyrus has all of the ghosts.

Dennis Rafkin pretends to be an electrician and meets Arthur, his family and the lawyer at the mansion.  Dennis warns Arthur that they need to leave the house because of the spirits and Arthur’s kids get lost in the house.  So Arthur and Dennis search for the kids, but at the same time try to get the heck of the house.

This house was an amazing masterpiece.  It really is cool.  I enjoyed the movie.  Pretty gruesome in some parts.  I would give the movie 8 out of 10 stars.

Species: The Awakening

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

This is the fourth movie of the species serious.  I really do think it was the worst. The plot was ok, but there wasn’t a whole lot of action in the movie compared to the other Species movies.

Basically the movie is about a scientist Dr Holander (Ben Cross) who takes his niece to Mexico to reverse the effects of the alien DNA that was used to create her from the start.

Again I was very disappointed with the movie.  The scene where the two aliens fight was a little corny to me.  I give the movie 5 out of 10 stars.

Dawn of the Dead

Monday, December 1st, 2008

This movie is about flesh-eating zombies. If you’re not sure what zombies do, they eat the flesh off of people and then that person also turns into a zombie. Anyway this movie is about a dozen people or so fighting off the zombies in a mall.

Ana, a nurse comes home has sex with her husband, Louis and goes asleep for the night without watching the TV news about the zombies. The next morning, a young girl comes into their house and bites her husband, Louis in the neck. Ana is obviously terrified by the whole and tries to help him, but then Louis tries to attack her. She gets away into her car and then crashes into a tree. She is eventually helped by a police sergeant and they walk away from the accident together. Then they run into a pregnant couple and a jack-of-all trades named Michael.

They decided the safest place to go is the shopping mall where they meet some security officers from the mall. They were skeptical at first in helping them, but they eventually knew they need all of the help that they can get.

In the mall, they all confront zombies. It is a exciting battle.

I would give the movie 8 out of 10 stars.

Desperation

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Stephen King’s Desperation was a great book.  He seems to be focused on the good vs. evil thing a lot lately in his most recent books.  Desperation is about a whacked out cop that kills everyone in his small town and captures a drunk, a family, a woman and her husband and a writer.

The stoy centers on their escape from the deranged cop, possessed by a demon (well they never actually say what Tak is, but I’m going to call it a demon, and their fight to destroy Tak.  Tak is uncovered after a collapsed mine is reopened releasing Tak, the unformed, and uleashing its destruction on the small mining town.

David, played by Shane Haboucha, is the oldest child of the Carver family.  The story centers around his relationship with God and his desire to do good in a bad situation.  David is confused, as any young child would be, when his sister is killed and God asks him to rescue the others and destroy Tak.

Stephen King’s storytelling has never been better.  The duel between good and evil is great and so is the story line.  The movie drags a little in parts, but mostly this is a solid movie, particularly one that was released on TV instead of the big screen.  Solid acting and great storyline make this a movie worth renting.

This is a must see.  I would give it 8 out of 10 stars.
